PRINCIPLES OF OUR WORK

Co-operation/Contacts

The Development of the Adventist Health Center in the Trans-Carpathian Region of Ukraine is closely connected with the personal history of the Uniat family in Canada & USA. The progress & future development of the Medical Missionary work in the Trans-Carpathian Region is outlined below. The objective is to have a center that is in compliance with the Spirit of Prophecy.

“Raised in Canada of parents that had emigrated from the Ukraine one hundred years ago(1904). I, the youngest of the five brothers had continual interest for our Ukrainian heritage.  Knowing that we have distant relatives living in the Ukraine, gave me an incentive to visit them. My first visit to the Ukraine was in the early 1980’s with my brother John, while the nation was still under the Soviet Regime. At that first visit, it was very evident that the people lived under severe Physical, Mental and Religious deprivation.  While visiting one of many hospitals, I witnessed a cancer patient who had severe acites (fluid in the abdomen) having surgery without anesthesia. This unforgettable experience gave me a determination to help in a small way, to raise the standard of treatment in both Medicine & Dentistry. Many dental extractions were done without any anesthetics.

With the help of brothers Mike and John a dentist, substantial monetary assistance was given for the Ukraine. The Elloway family also assisted in lecturing, conducting an immunization program, and sending, many Containers of hospital and dental supplies.  With special thanks we want to thank all the Donors from Canada & USA for contributing to the Ukrainian Cafeteria project.

Early in 1991 and in 1993, a congregation was established under the direction of Evangelists Miller and Skorets. This congregation met at a Clubhouse for their worship, which was not an ideal situation. Attempts were made to solicit donors and sponsors to build a Church home, but with no success. After two years Pastor Yavorski approached the City Authorities to have the city donate a Church building for the congregation. Orphaned & Handicapped children used this Church building as a Cafeteria.  The city officials offered the newly formed Congregation, a proposal, that if they built a new Cafeteria for the students, then the Church edifice would be donated to the Congregation with no strings attached. Two years had lapsed and the Church was not able to raise any funds to meet the City’s requirements.  Since no interest was made to build the cafeteria for some time the city began to withdraw their offer while other Church Denominations were very interested in acquiring this valuable property.

At this time in my yearly visit to the Ukraine, I saw this Church property and the possibilities in having a beautiful Church facility, the value and potential of this property was underestimated. It was decided with the congregation’s approval, to step out in faith to acquire this property and build a Cafeteria for the Special School  N6.   Pastor Peter Uniat, my brother, undertook this giant challenge in fund raising in Canada.  God richly blessed brother Peter’s efforts and funds came and the work was started. The Congregation under the direction of Pastor Yavorski completed the building project in less than two years.

This Beautiful edifice has gone through complete restoration and is serving the Congregation, as Lviv # 2 Church and was dedicated on May 2001. Many non-members visit the church and admire the Choir and Church programs.  Lectures and Seminars are conducted for the general public.  The local Conference has their offices on the third floor. The Dental clinic on the second floor are serving the Orphaned and handicapped children as well as for the poor.  A Massage and a Medical Consultation clinic are located on the first floor.

In the year of 2002 I contacted Pastor John Yavorski in Ukraine to search for suitable property for establishing a Sanitarium. He & Luba, my relative, were looking for property that would meet the blue prints as given to us in the Spirit of Prophecy. This property, which met most of the requirements was found but unfortunately was Not for sale.

Decision was made after 11 months of searching to build near Lviv. However just before the legal papers were to be signed with the local Authorities, a phone call was made to Pastor Yavorski  from the Carpathian mountains informing Yavorski that that property which was Not for sale was now ready to be sold. This was miraculous. Without any hesitation the property was purchased, however under severe & difficult conditions. The Lord got this property after much prayer and fasting by the congregation.

Establishing a Sanitarium work and a Medical Missionary training School is on the drawing board. The Local, Union and Division leaders viewed this property and approved it for its intended use. There are 4 three-story buildings, well constructed and additional two, two story buildings. The potential for developing this project is unlimited. A beautiful mountain property and location ideally located for public transportation.

There is a considerable amount of work to complete this facility before it becomes operational. The Lord is blessing and the work is progressing. We sincerely solicit your prayers and support for this project.  Volunteers are needed to teach, build, and assist at this center.  The Medical Missionary work will be the last work done on this earth before Jesus comes.  The following is a quote from a book WELFARE MINISTRY.

“Medical Missionary Ministry in the Closing Crisis-- My heart is made sad as I look at our churches, which ought to be connected in heart and soul and practice with the medical missionary work. . . . I wish to tell you that soon there will be no work done in Ministerial lines but medical missionary work”… WM. 139
